Unknown is unloved. And so we let ourselves be seduced by the Canadian Alex Henry Foster, former frontman of Your Favorite Enemies, but who has been on the road solo for quite some time now. He showed his skills at the Trix.

As laymen in the post-rock landscape, we were sent out to capture this evening. The support act Sef Lemelin, who later joined Alex Henry Foster’s band, performed a twenty-minute warm-up set. It immediately gave us an idea of the length of the evening’s songs. Lemelin built his sounds, starting from light synths, towards an eclipse over this long period. The audience was sucked in to be completely ready for the main program.

Six songs. But songs of fifteen minutes each, spread over the entire evening, that’s how Alex Henry Foster planned his campaign of conquest. One was completely captivated by the music and could let themselves be carried away all evening long. The band played not only with the audience, but also played each other. And there were enough interludes to make everyone’s talent and instrument shine. Alex Henry Foster was, of course, the eye-catcher. With a powerful voice, profound lyrics and tight guitar and cello work, the audience was completely taken in.

And literally so! For Summertime Departures, someone from the audience was actually handed Foster’s guitar and invited on stage. Fortunately, no complex riff had to be played. And at the end of the song, a cymbal was be struck with the guitar itself. That fan will not easily forget this evening.

After having drawn out crowd-favorite The Hunter, the evening concluded with dignity with a tribute to Foster’s father. Shadows Of Our Evening Tides was also dedicated to a fan who had lost someone dear. An emotional end to a wonderful evening. A concert that we will not soon forget.
