Il y a tellement d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments qui sont li\u00e9s \u00e0 la Bay Area pour nous, que ce soit notre attachement profond \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipe de baseball des Giants ou certains de nos groupes pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s qui sont originaires de la grande r\u00e9gion de San Francisco, en passant par la sentimentalit\u00e9 associ\u00e9e \u00e0 la culture de la c\u00f4te ouest am\u00e9ricaine. Quant \u00e0 moi, tout remonte \u00e0 Allen Ginsberg et \u00e0 la Beat Generation, la lutte pour l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 et les droits humains pour tous, les Grateful Dead, et le mouvement du r\u00e9veil de Azusa Street. Mais encore plus proche de moi, il y a mon ami d\u2019enfance Philippe, qui m\u2019a inspir\u00e9 le courage de suivre mes propres convictions lorsqu\u2019il a tout quitt\u00e9 pour s\u2019installer en Californie il y a des ann\u00e9es. C\u2019est assez incroyable de r\u00e9aliser combien de rep\u00e8res importants on peut avoir dans sa vie lorsque l\u2019on prend un moment pour y r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir et saisir le moment pr\u00e9sent.\n<br><br>\nC\u2019\u00e9tait aussi \u00e9mouvant de voir nos fr\u00e8res Kerim (notre ing\u00e9nieur son) et Felix (notre technicien de sc\u00e8ne) aussi enthousiastes que nous, eux qui sont venus d\u2019Allemagne pour nous soutenir dans cette tourn\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine significative, d\u00e9couvrir pour la premi\u00e8re fois quelques myst\u00e8res des \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 travers la fen\u00eatre d\u2019un van de 11 places. M\u00eame Marcus (notre passionn\u00e9 savant du merchandising), qui compl\u00e8te notre trio allemand ador\u00e9, \u00e9tait super enthousiaste, bien qu\u2019il vienne souvent en Am\u00e9rique pour rendre visite \u00e0 certains membres de sa famille. Tout cela me rappelle qu\u2019au-del\u00e0 de nos perspectives politiques et de nos points de vue sociaux diff\u00e9rents, chaque \u00ab outsider \u00bb d\u00e9couvre les \u00c9tats-Unis \u00e0 sa mani\u00e8re, \u00e0 des niveaux vari\u00e9s. Pas \u00e9tonnant que nous soyons arriv\u00e9s aussi t\u00f4t\u2026 14h30. Je d\u00e9teste ces arriv\u00e9es pr\u00e9coces\u202f; elles t\u2019obligent \u00e0 g\u00e9rer ton \u00e9nergie pour la catharsis \u00e0 venir. Je peux bl\u00e2mer l\u2019\u00e9norme quantit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9quipement que j\u2019ai apport\u00e9e pour cette tourn\u00e9e pour \u00e7a. Autrement dit, il est difficile de me plaindre de notre planning de production si atypique, m\u00eame selon nos propres normes. J\u2019\u00e9tais d\u00e9j\u00e0 un peu (tr\u00e8s, tr\u00e8s peu) impatient quand nous avons enfin commenc\u00e9 notre balance, qui est pour moi essentielle pour commencer \u00e0 discerner les contours de l\u2019esprit du concert. Mais\u2026 disons simplement que \u00e7a ne s\u2019est pas pass\u00e9 comme pr\u00e9vu. Je ne le sentais pas du tout, et en plus, Sef, qui n\u2019avait pas remarqu\u00e9 \u00e0 quel point nous \u00e9tions proches sur sc\u00e8ne, a failli me renverser en laissant tomber violemment sa guitare sur ma t\u00eate, m\u2019offrant un flash knockout et un peu de sang en prime. J\u2019\u00e9tais un peu plus impatient apr\u00e8s cette agression amicale. Voil\u00e0 ce qui arrive quand on fonde un groupe sur la base d\u2019un danger cr\u00e9atif et d\u2019une improvisation inattendue, je suppose\u202f! C\u2019est en effet dangereux physiquement, mais aussi impr\u00e9visible\u202f! Le c\u00f4t\u00e9 positif, c\u2019est qu\u2019on \u00e9tait sur sc\u00e8ne dans 60 minutes, donc pas le temps de se plaindre. M\u00eame si Sef m\u2019a dit apr\u00e8s coup : \u00ab Il n\u2019y a pas de place pour les pleurs dans le rock n\u2019 roll \u00bb. Incroyable\u2026!\n<br><br>\nMes \u00e9chauffements vocaux pr\u00e9-concert \u00e9taient un peu plus pr\u00e9occupants que ma t\u00eate ensanglant\u00e9e, pour \u00eatre honn\u00eate. Passer quelques heures dans un van suivi de tr\u00e8s peu de sommeil, c\u2019est assez mauvais pour les cordes vocales. En tout cas, pour les miennes. La chanson Slow Pace of the Winds a des notes particuli\u00e8rement hautes qu\u2019il faut atteindre sans aucune mont\u00e9e progressive. C\u2019est du genre : \u00ab Bam ! Voici la note haute ! \u00bb, alors je me demandais si je ne devais pas plut\u00f4t descendre. Je savais que c\u2019\u00e9tait pr\u00e9f\u00e9rable, mais ce n\u2019est pas vraiment comme \u00e7a que je fonctionne, surtout quand c\u2019est le pivot \u00e9motionnel d\u2019une chanson. On est all\u00e9s trop loin pour avoir peur \u00e0 ce point-ci, non\u202f? Nous allions aussi revoir de tr\u00e8s vieux amis pour la premi\u00e8re fois, certains datant de 2006\u202f; l\u2019\u00e8re MySpace\u2026 Oh, les souvenirs\u202f! The opposite of the opposite is just the thing itself, right? We were received as family, and we felt just like it.\n<br><br>\nThe night ended with Jamal, The New Parish\u2019s manager, the friendliest venue manager I have encountered in a long time, coming to us right at midnight and offering Kerim a beer as it was his birthday. Jamal remembered that I had mentioned it a few hours before. I mean, that is not only classy, it is a spectacular gesture in my book! So nice and generous. Just like the rest of the team at the venue. Everyone was phenomenal in their own right. They all asked me to come back, and I will \u2014 we will! What a day, what an evening.
