Alex Henry Foster releases new music video for ‘The Son of Hannah’

Following the successful release of his first single ‘I’m Afraid’ — which received widespread critical acclaim — Alex Henry Foster announces the upcoming release of a new music video for ‘The Son of Hannah,’ ahead of his highly anticipated live album, ‘A Nightfall Ritual,’ out May 16, 2025
What a pleasure it is for me to get an email from Hopeful Tragedy Records to cover Canada based Shoegaze/Post-Rock artist, Alex Henry Foster. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as I’ve been completely immersed in his atmospheric soundscapes lately.
This release follows Foster’s acclaimed single “I’m Afraid,” which reached #1 on Prog Magazine’s Tracks of the Week and serves as the latest preview of his highly anticipated live album, A Nightfall Ritual, set to arrive on May 16, 2025.

“The Son of Hannah” originally premiered on Foster’s Billboard #4 charting live album Standing Under Bright Lights but takes on a transformative new form in this latest opus.

“This is one of the many positives from the Long Shadows as songs constantly change and grow from performance to performance. Each version becomes essential to the moment it exists in, something that’s been well documented with Foster’s live releases.”

When asked about revisiting this particular composition, Foster offered profound insight: “There’s a very intimate connection to its nature and the undertone that led me to write the song ‘I’m Afraid’. I don’t think I would have been able to explore, much less publicly display what resides within me, if it wasn’t for what The Son Of Hannah has evolved into.”

The project carries special significance as it represents Foster’s triumphant return following an emergency heart surgery requiring a double graft two years ago. The album showcases Foster and his band The Long Shadows’ rich, multi-layered wall of sounds with all the passion and mastery they’re now renowned for.
For fans of expansive, cinematic sound experiences in the vein of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and This Will Destroy You, Foster’s upcoming live collection promises to capture the transcendent quality of his performances that have earned him a dedicated following across North America and Europe.

Mark your calendars for May 16th and make sure you head on over to the Bandcamp link above to pre-order this one as it is shaping up to be one of the most compelling live albums of 2025.
