Revisiting From the City to the Ocean, its inception, and the circumstances it was born from, gave me the opportunity to revisit both ends of the very same spectrum, the self-destructive and the self-reconstruction. Same journey, but two absolutely different trajectories. Never linear, never immutable, never hopeless, never too late… In many ways, it encapsulates so many elements defining my personal story, a mix of self-deprecation, profound loneliness, rage, and scornful distrust, but also a particular selfless care for others, apathy, and compassion. It all lives within me. Denying the worst aspect of it is depriving the miracle of love that not only drives me but inspires and sustains me now, which are some of the defining elements I decided to cultivate in my life, ones that keep my heart in check and my spirit free.
